Any operating system that runs from the hard disk is called a disk operating system (D.O.S). This also refers to the specific family of disk operating systems known as MS-DOS or Microsoft disk operating systems. Everything that controls and controls a computer’s hardware and peripherals with control over its program and function is called an operating system. The operating system that runs through this hard drive is called the disk operating system. It was produced by Microsoft and first introduced to IBM, called IBM PC DOS, in 1981.
“PC-DOS” is a version of DOS developed by IBM and sold for the first IBM-compatible computers manufactured. “MS-DOS” is the version of DOS that Microsoft licensed and patented and merged with early versions of Windows. The command line is used by DOS, or a text-based interface, where command input is allowed by the user.
By giving simple instructions like pwd (printing working directory) and cd (change directory), the user can open files or run programs or browse files on the hard drive. Originally written by Tim Patterson (considered the father of DOS) and owned by Seattle Computer Products, Microsoft acquired 86-DOS for $75,000, licensed the same software, and released it with IBM PC MS-DOS 1.0 in 1982 with a joint venture of IBM and Microsoft .
